Just a bit of background, I am not trying to quit alcohol or criminal activity, just ordinary everyday stuff like eating the right food, staying focussed on work, nipping worry in the bud, not walking away from my unmade bed in the morning without fixing the duvet and fluffing the pillows etc.. I have been simplifying a lot of things in my life and identified the behaviors that lead to happiness. I am doing pretty well but would like a simple way of helping myself to do the right thing at the moments I am about to deviate. I do not expect to be able to do the ‘right thing’ always but I would like to do so as often as is possible.
Homeless broke guy has a friend, who is also homeless and broke.
They love their life together on the street.
They are easily able to survive. They never have to work.
The rub it in the rich peoples’ faces that they are the ones having the better time, especially on Friday nights, when they hit the town with signs like: “I bet you $1 that you won’t read to the end of this sign.”
One Friday night they go halfsies on a lottery ticket.
It hits for a few hundred dollars. They go to a bar and celebrate.
Drunk at the bar, they talk about dark painful things that have occurred in their pasts.
Outside, one of the friends rolls the other and absconds with both halves of the lottery money.
